Lawmaker Hazi Selim’s son Irfan jailed for one year
A Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) mobile court sentenced lawmaker Hazi Selim’s son Irfan Salim, also councilor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DCC) ward No-30, and body guard Mohammad Jahid Hossain to one year for possessing illegal liquor and walkie-talkies.
RAB Legal and media wing director Lieutenant Colonel Ashik Billah confirmed the matter that RAB’s Executive Magistrate Sarwar Alam passed the order on Friday evening.
Earlier, the elite force conducted a raid at the Lalbag house of Hazi Selim, MP, of Dhaka-7 constituency, and arrested his son Irfan Salim, 37, and body guard Mohammad Jahid Hossain, 35, in connection with a case filed with Dhanmondi police station.
Lieutenant Wasif Ahmed Khan of Bangladesh Navy filed a case against seven people, including Irfan Salim and his father’s bodyguard and five others, accusing them of assaulting him and his wife last evening.
The navy officer was allegedly assaulted by a group of people, led by Irfan Salim, near Kalabagan crossing under Dhanmondi police station last evening after the car owned by lawmaker Hazi Salim hit his (navy officer’s) motorbike.
Lieutenant Wasif, in his complainant, said the car first hit the motorcycle while he was returning home with his wife after purchasing some books. As he tried to protest the incident some people got down from the car, assaulted him and knocked out his one tooth.
Later, the assaulters escaped the scene leaving the car behind as people started to gather around.
Police last night arrested the driver Mizan who is on one-day police remand while RAB arrested Hazi Salim’s son Irfan this noon.
During seven-hour raid at Hazi Salim’s residence, the RAB recovered an illegal firearm, 5-6 liters of wine, 400 pieces of yaba, 36 to 40 sets of walkie-talkies and a handcuff from them, Lit Ashique added.
