Court sends Journalist Rozina to jail rejecting remand plea
A Dhaka court on Tuesday sent Prothom Alo Senior Correspondent Rozina Islam to jail after rejecting the remand plea in a case filed against her under Bangladesh Penal Code and Official Secrets Act.
Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jashim passed the order after Inspector of Shahbagh Police Station Arifur Rahman Sardar produced her before the court with a five-day remand prayer.
Meanwhile, defence filed a petition seeking bail of Rozina and also seeking cancellation of remand prayer.
After rejecting the remand prayer, the court sent Rozina to jail. The court will hear--on Thursday--the petition filed seeking Rozina`s bail.
Earlier around 8:30am, Rozina was produced before the prison cell.
Rozina was kept confined at the health ministry for more than five hours on Monday before she was handed over to police.
Later, she was shown arrested in the case on charges of stealing document.
