Shishu Bokta’ Rafiqul placed on 7-day remand

A virtual court in Dhaka on Thursday placed Rafiqul Islam Madani, widely known as "Shishu Bokta", on a seven-day remand in a case filed with Motijheel Police Station under the Digital Security Act.

Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Sufiyan Md Noman passed the order after Kazi Md Nasirul Amin--an inspector of Cyber and Special Crime Unit of Detective Branch of police, and also the investigation officer of the case--submitted a 10-day remand prayer.

During the hearing, the magistrate sent a virtual link to the jail authorities of Kashimpur High-Security Jail and passed the remand order witnessing the accused virtually.

On April 8, one Syed Adnan Shanto filed the case with Motijheel Police Station against Rafiqul, alleging anti-state remarks and incitement of chaos.

Apart from Rafiqul, four others --Mohammad Amzad, Mahmudul Hassan Murtuza, HM Lokman Hossain, and Tawhid Islam--have also been accused in the case.

The plaintiff mentioned in the First Information Report that Rafiqul had made various anti-state and chaos-inciting remarks on YouTube and other social media platforms.

On Wednesday, Rafiqul was placed on a nine-day remand in two cases filed with Motijheel and Tejgaon police stations.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Rafiqul from his ancestral home in Netrokona's Purbatola area on April 7.
