HC directs BTRC to remove Al Jazeera report from online

The High Court on Wednesday directed the BTRC to remove the content of Al Jazeera's report titled “All the Prime Minister's Men” from all online platforms.

An HC bench comprising Justice Md Mozibur Rahman Miah and Justice Md Kamrul Islam Mollah passed the order after disposing of a writ petition that sought a ban on the broadcast of Al Jazeera report.

Moshiur Malek, founder and president of Bangabandhu Foundation, filed the case with the Court of Metropolitan Magistrate MD Ashek Imam this morning 10:00am.

In the complaint, Malek said by broadcasting this report, Al Jazeera has tarnished the image of Bangladesh government and the state at home and abroad, which is tantamount to sedition.

The report was fictitious and flawed, Malek said.

The complainant appealed to the court to issue arrest warrant against the accused through interpol for their alleged involvement in committing the offences.

Later, the court recorded the statement of the complainant and took the charges into cognisance.
