West Bengal announces two-week lockdown from Sunday
The West Bengal government on Saturday announced a two-week complete lockdown from tomorrow to check the spread of Covid-19 infections.
Movement of private vehicles, taxis, buses, metro rail and suburban trains will be suspended during the 15-day lockdown period.
All offices and educational institutions will be shut.
West Bengal reported 20,846 fresh Covid-19 cases, the highest so far in single day and 136 more fatalities in 24 hours till Friday evening, according to the State Health Department.
The state had been under strict Covid-19 related curbs for the last two weeks with malls, restaurants, gyms, bars and major markets remaining closed and stand-alone shops and neighbourhood bazars functioning for limited hours
