No bar to holding FBCCI election on May 5

No bar to holding FBCCI election on May 5

The High Court on Sunday cleared the way for holding election to the posts of directors of Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) on May 5.

The court discharged the rule it issued earlier, questioning the inaction of the authorities to halt the election process and the decision to continue the process for holding the election amid the pandemic.

The HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Sardar Md Rashed Jahangir came up with the order following a petition filed by the election board of FBCCI, seeking discharge of the rule.

Citing the petition of election board of FBCCI, its lawyer Imtiaz Mainul Islam told The Daily Star that the writ petition filed by Amir Uddin Bipu challenging the election is not acceptable as he is not a member of FBCCI.

There is no legal bar for the election board of FBCCI to continue the process for holding election to 46 posts of directors on May 5 following the HC order, he said.

Lawyer Shah Monjurul Hoque appeared for FBCCI.
