Stocks maintain upward trend
The stock market maintained an upward trend on Wednesday amid the ongoing countrywide lockdown.
The DSEX, the benchmark index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), rose 1.43 points or 0.02 per cent to stand 5,423 today at 12.55 pm.
The index has been builish in the last six consecutive trading days, posting a surge of 257 points.
A stock broker said retail investors learnt a lesson last year when they incurred losses after selling shares at the start of the pandemic. Because, the stocks then bounced back after a short period, he said.
“This year they are not selling, rather buying pinning hopes on the potential of the listed companies.”
At the DSE, 130 companies advanced, 156 fell and 67 remained unchanged as of the filing of the report at 12.55pm.
Turnover, an important indicator of the stock market, stood at Tk 776 crore.
