An accused was stabbed to death by another suspect of a murder case in front of a judge inside a courtroom in Cumilla on Monday.

An accused was stabbed to death by another suspect of a murder case in front of a judge inside a courtroom in Cumilla on Monday.

The deceased was identified as Faruk, 26, son of Ohidullah of Laksham.

The incident took place around 12:00 noon when Hasan, 26, son of Shahidullah of Manoharganj, stabbed Faruk during a hearing on the murder case at the Cumilla Additional District and Sessions Judge’s court.

Md Salauddin, inspector (investigation) of Cumilla Kotwali Police Station, confirmed the incident.

Faruk and Hasan are cousins and both are accused in the murder case, the police official said.

They went to the court to appear before it in connection with the case, he further said.

“At one stage of hearing, Hasan started chasing Faruk at the courtroom and stabbed him in front of Judge Fatema Ferdous as the victim tried to hide under a table inside the judge’s chamber,” said Public Prosecutor Liakat Ali.

Police arrested Hasan soon after the incident, Inspector Salauddin said adding that police suspect Hasan carried the knife with him when he came to the court to appear before it.

The body of the victim is in police custody, the official added.
