Dhaka University Central Students Union (DUCSU) President Nurul Haque Nur was assaulted in Bogura on Sunday, allegedly by activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL).

Some 25-30 people launched the assault around 5:00pm when Nur and his followers were preparing for an iftar party of his organisation Bangladesh Sadharan Chhatra Sangrakkhan Parishad.

Nur and Central Joint Convener of the quota reformist students’ platform Rasul were badly injured, Md Din Yanim Molla, joint convener of the platform. They were taken to Mohammad Ali Hospital initially.

“We informed the police about this iftar party, but they asked us not to arrange it anywhere in Bogura as they suspected BCL men might attack us,” he added.

Contacted, Sonaton Chakroborty, additional superintendent of police (Bogra Sadar Circle), said that they did not know about any such programme or threat.

“Nur and his men were shouting,” he said. They only jostled with one another during an altercation and nothing more than that happened, he added.
