Dhaka: Information Minister Hasan Mahmud on Wednesday rejected Transparency International (TI) corruption index which indicated graft was rising in Bangladesh.

“The findings of the report were faulty and fictitious,” he said.

Hasan Mahmud termed “politically motivated” the TI corruption index on which Bangladesh slipped six notches down.

The minister made the remarks when he was replying to a query by journalists at the secretariat this afternoon, reports the daily.

Bangladesh went down six notches in the Transparency International's global Corruption Perceptions Index 2018 for a lack of effective government measures to fight corruption.

In South Asia, Bangladesh ranked the second lowest, only ahead of war-torn Afghanistan.
