BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday observed that arrangements have been made to eliminate the nationalist forces.

BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday observed that arrangements have been made to eliminate the nationalist forces.

“A plot to destroy the BNP leaders is going on as the government wants to enjoy absolute power for a long time by establishing a one-party monopoly,” he said.

The BNP leader came up with the observation in a statement.

He added: “The government has initiated a process to eliminate the nationalist forces to continue its ‘one-party monopoly rule’ for a long time.”

Mirza Fakhrul also said the government has been harassing the leaders of BNP and other opposition parties at all levels, including senior ones, by implicating them in ‘false, baseless and fabricated and politically motivated’ cases.

The statement was issued voicing concern over the High Court order that upheld a lower court verdict sentencing BNP vice chairman Mir Mohammad Nasiruddin to 13 years and his son Mir Mohammad Helaluddin to three years in a corruption case.

Fakhrul said Mir Nasir and Mir Helal were punished in the ‘false and fabricated’ graft case following a ‘conspiracy’ by the government.

He alleged that the government is pushing the country towards dangerous anarchy with it desperate attitude to oppress and suppress the opposition leaders.

The BNP leader demanded the government immediately revoke the convictions of Nasir and Helal and withdraw the ‘false’ case filed against them.
