Man held with 130 gold bars in Chattogram airport

The detainee was identified as Mohammad Joynal Abedin, hailing from Fatikchari upazila in Chattogram, our staff correspondent reports quoting Babul Iqbal, deputy director of Customs Intelligence House (Chattogram).

 

Customs Intelligence officials claimed to have detained one man with 130 gold bars from Hazrat Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram.

The detainee was identified as Mohammad Joynal Abedin, hailing from Fatikchari upazila in Chattogram, our staff correspondent reports quoting Babul Iqbal, deputy director of Customs Intelligence House (Chattogram).

Joynal Abedin landed at the airport on an Air Arabia flight from Sharjah of United Arab Emirates around 8:20 am.

Acting on a tip-off, customs officials challenged Abedin and conducted a search of his luggage and found 130 gold bars in his suitcase.

The gold bars, weighing around 15kgs is worth Tk 6.5crore, the official said.
